The Cycle Has Begun

My mom says that every time we get a house just the way we want it, we move.

In our previous homes, we've had to replace the stove. Then the dishwasher. Then, when we had money saved up, we'd rip out the vinyl floors and put in ceramic tile. Or, remodel the master bath...

My oven is on the fritz. I made cookies a few weeks ago, and I had a hard time not burning them. They would cook in less than five minutes, with the temperature at 300F.

Here's the "plain" stove we currently have.

Last Saturday I cooked a cheesecake for Studmuffin's birthday. I cooked it as I always have...

The darn thing wasn't done in the middle.

Apparently my thermostat is messed up...Also, the clock and timer on it keeps over 2 minutes for every one minute of real time.

Studmuffin has been wanting a new stove for a while now. Our current one is just so "plain." He also wants a new dishwasher, refrigerator, and washing machine...

I want a new fence and a closed, aerated septic system.

Can you say "roll reversal?"

So. This week I will look at new stoves. Then, if history repeats itself, we will need a new dishwasher, as this one will quit within a month or so of the new stove...This is the model I'm currently thinking (read here: drooling) about. Although the price is making me cringe.

Then, I will end up putting in tile floors somewhere. (Although my plan in my head is for laminate or wood.)

And, our house will be beautiful.

Then, Studmuffin will come home and inform me we are moving...

And the cycle will be complete for another few years.

Do you have a cooking show? That stove is really nice and I am really jealous. We have an oven that I think came from the first models of electric ovens era. Even though it's super hard to be happy for you, I am. New appliances are very fun, they're so sparkly and clean. Lucky!

Freckled Hen, if I had a cooking show, I would totally have a range top with a MINIMUM of two built in ovens...Or one of those super cool commercial ovens with the side by side where one side is smaller with the little door that opens out like a cabinet...Am I making any sense?

Why would she move to Canyon when you are moving to Kansas? My mom got a new stove and it is SIMPLE. It only has a clock and timer. Nothing computerized about it. She special ordered it and wasn't about to learn anything new at her young age of 88.

I love the stove. If I could do it over again I would get that stove. Just don't look at the price tag and hand the nice salesperson your VISA. I know this is probably very bad advice, but I think a stove is very important and you can always get a cheaper dishwasher (you'll just have to deal with the noise) to compensate.

If I can put my two cents worth regarding your floors, don't do laminate. It is unforgiving. Every piece of dirt shows. I can't wait until we redo ours. I would go with the tile or with real wood. If you want, I hear bamboo is nice too.

Ha-we're like you. We like to say when we add a deck or patio we know a transfer is in the works. I've had two houses we added decks too in the late fall that we essentially never got to sit on since we moved by the time spring rolled around. Oh well, that sort of thing helps sell the house.

I have wood floors in my kitchen (all of my downstairs actually) and I love them. My hubs likes to polish them though which is nice. Maybe if I had that job I wouldn't like them as much.

Have a nice weekend!

Very, very nice... We only have one appliance left to replace - the stove. All of or appliances are stainless steel and the stove is black. I decided to paint my vent-a-hood to match until the time comes to make the purchase. It turned out quite well... When we replace the stove, we will install the vent-a-hood/microwave at the same time. Eventually... Mark is building new cabinets for our kitchen.

Good luck! Oh, and go for the stove you want. Life is too short. :-)

Andi, I too looked at a stove like this, but didn't like that the bottom oven door ends up nearly on the floor. Decided I was too old to lift a turkey from the floor. Love my double ovens. Anyhoo.
